Re: Congratulations 7th Regiment! « Result #1 on Aug 9, 2009, 12:31am »
I saw the corps in person for the first time yesterday morning, the trip from North Carolina was well worth it. What a great bunch of young adults. New London has much to be proud of. Kudos to the admin folks, Tim, Edgar, Barb, Harold, Daisy, Jim, Fawn, and all the volunteers, Moms and Dads. I'm sorry if I forgot anyone, everyone was wonderful. What a thrill it had to be for kids to perform in that facility. (We thought Manning Bowl was it)! For the alumni - time to step up and help the kids out. Needs are many and we all can do something. I plan on starting my contribution early (today) once I get home. Every penny counts - support YOUR corps!
For the corps members - Thank you for making an "old" Surfer smile. See you on the Fifty!
Have a safe trip home, your family and friends are very proud of you all.

Well - on Friday August 7th, I got to see the 7th Regiment for the first time in full dress on the field performing at the DCI Open Class Semi Finals, and oh boy - I was not dissapointed, matter of fact, I had a hard time seeing this fantasic performance live streamed from DCI on my computer monitor because I had all this watering in the eyes issues!!! Man, did you guys and girls make me proud... once again, I was able to feel those butterflies in my stomach as the announcer asked... "Drum Major... is your corps ready?"... you guys went on to improve another step in the finals the next night - you are AWSOME BABY... what a year to remember, be proud, strut your stuff, you all earned the right... and now I can't wait to see what 2010 will bring... Drum Corps never gets old... and you made all us old alumni feel like kids again - thank you, thank you, thank you...!!!
Congratulations 7th Regiment! « Result #3 on Aug 8, 2009, 7:12pm »
Congratulations to 7th Regiment on your first trip into the DCI World Open Class Finals!! Congratulations also for getting some of the very best scores you've ever acheived. You played hard and the rewards were great. Many thanks also to the staff and volunteers who helped get you out there! I'm so proud of not only my own son, (Gage) but of every single member of the corp. You all looked and sounded great out there on the turf of Lucas Oil Stadium...I can only imagine what it was like from your point of view...a wall of cheering people! There were never any criticisms in the stands when I heard people talking about 7th Regiment at performances through the season; it's ALL been good. The most frequent comments were... "Wow! 7th is amazing this year!" and "This corp has awsome percussion!" and "The music is great and their field presence is awesome for a corp that size; they sound so much bigger!" and of course..."Have you seen 7th Regiment this year? They're awesome!" Enjoy the rest of your time out there, savor every minute, and come home to us safe and sound. We've missed you, but we know you were right where you wanted to be. We'll be waiting for our 2009 World Open Class Finalists! ... gotta love the sound of that!

7th Regiment 2008 Season Scores « Result #6 on Oct 3, 2008, 7:29pm »
June 28, 2008 - New London, CT
The 7th Regiment's first show was also their home show. There were 6 corps in attendance in the new DCI Open Class. 3 were from last year's Class II and 3 from Class III, and the final results were:
Looks like the 7th has started their season move up the rankings, finishing 3rd out of 7 corps, and less than a point behind 2nd - great show 7th!!! Scores are:
Citations 70.40 Dutch Boy 63.50 7th Regiment 62.65 Spartans 61.65 Les Stentors 53.10 Targets 49.35 Spirit of NJ 44.40
Manchester NH July 13th, 2008
Well, the 7th dropped one spot by .05 of a point to the Spartans, who were performing for what I guess could be considered their home show...
Citations 72.50 Dutch Boy 65.30 Spartans 63.20 7th Regiment 63.15 Les Stentors 53.10 Targets 50.85
Wildwood NJ - July 18th, 2008
Another great showing by the 7th Regiment, with their scores still going up. Hopefully, the 7th will continue like last year and show an improvement growth that outpaces their nearest competitors... keep it going 7th!!!
Well the 7th went up a little in score from yesterdays competition, but so did the corps ahead of them. A fine respectable 3rd place finish!!!
Raiders 73.80 Spartans 71.05 7th Regiment 68.65 Racine Scouts 65.70 Les Stentors 56.30 Targets 55.95 Spirit of NJ 53.40 Rome, New York - July 30th, 2008 Scores
This was a tough show for the 7th with World Class Corps and only 3 in the Open Class, including the remarkable Jersey Surf.
World Class
Cavaliers 93.75 Boston Crusaders 84.95 The Academy 77.30 Pioneer 72.95
Open Class
Jersey Surf 86.40 Spartans 75.20 7th Regiment 71.00
Hornell, NY - July 31st, 2008
This was a small show, only 5 corps, with 3 of them being World Class. The 7th wrote a new high score in their history book! Appears that they are priming themselves to peak at the Nationals!!!
World Class
Blue Stars 86.65 Spirit 81.75 Pioneer 73.45
Open Class
Beatrix 79.70 7th Regiment 73.35
Madison, WI - August 2nd, 2008
Well - the 7th scores continue to go up and set new high score records with each competition. Scores are:
Open Class
Blue Devils B 91.200 Spokane Thunder 86.275 Citations 85.450 Raiders 84.150 Dutch Boy 81.750 Impulse 77.275 Legends 76.675 7th Regiment 76.275 Colt Cadets 76.100 Racine Scouts 72.275 Les Stentors 65.450 Spirit of NJ 64.375
Whitewater, WI - August 3rd, 2008
Again the 7th Regiment sets an all time high score with 78.40!!! What was important about this show was that with the corps they played against the previous night, the 7th showed a 2.125 improvement, whereas, the corps around them went down - the Raiders dropped 4.10 points, the Impulse went down 1.425, and the Dutch Boy lost .50 from the previous night.
Well - the 7th did it, they made the semi-finals which will be tomorrow on Aug 7th!!! That means they will get at least one more shot to hit the 80 point range - GO for it 7th!!! Here are the final scores of the quarter-finals.

Back in the day - Surfers 1968 Recording « Result #7 on Oct 3, 2008, 7:24pm »
Now - here's a link for all you old time Surfers (and you youngins' of the 7th Regiment). The 1968 World Open recording of the New London Surfers. We were a small corps of approx. 50 members back then, and as a Class B corps, only had a 7 minute+ show. But turn up the volume, close your eyes, and sit back and enjoy!!! I think we placed 10th that season in Class B...

1969 - New York Warriors Recording « Result #8 on Oct 3, 2008, 7:23pm »
This is a Drum Corps 101 Class... for all you 7th Regiment members. The attached link will provide what I believe was percussion in the oldy goldy days. This recording is from the 1969 World Open of the New York Warriors - now remember, there were no pits in those days, and recording equipement was quite archaic by today's standards. But listen to how the drum line complements the brass, and the last drum solo is my all time favorite... and remember there were 6 to 8 snares playing - drills were written to play to the crowds (not the judges) and they started at one end zone and finished on the opposite... so turn up your volume, kick back and enjoy a corps, that was not in the top elite of their day, but still provide some great music... p.s. all you Surfer alumni watched them at the 1969 World Open...!!!

1969 St. Rita's Brassmen Recording « Result #9 on Oct 3, 2008, 7:21pm »
Here's another Drum Corps 101 class - this time on Brass. The attached recording from the 1969 World Open of the St. Rita's Brassmen will show you just how talented they were back in the day... bugles only had one valve, and there were probably several types used today that weren't in service back then. Again recording equipement was archaic to today's standards and the corps started in one end zone and finshed in the opposite. But the Off-the-line musical score by St. Rita's is one of the all time greats!!! Turn up your volume, kick back and enjoy some really great, talented kids... St. Rita's was a annual finalist at the big shows, always seeming to get into the top ten...

Another Day with the Surfers - 1973 « Result #10 on Oct 3, 2008, 7:19pm »
Now - I wasn't in the Surfers in 1973 - which was a few years after they had won the Class B World Open Championship, but the Corps had grown to well over 100 members and the sounds show it... so once again, all your Surfer Alumni and current 7th members, turn up the volume, close your eyes, and enjoy another great experience from back in the year...
